Campus Regina Public Fire Science students have the opportunity each year to visit the only firefighter training facility in the province of Saskatchewan.  Parkland Fire College is located in Melville, Saskatchewan.  Some of our students have gone on to attend and complete training at Parkland.  Students are given a full tour of both the classroom environments and the skills training sites as well (This includes the Parkland Campus, the Melville Fire Station, & the Parkland Training grounds).  Students are informed about the program so they can have a better understanding of what to expect from Firefighter training at Parkland. Parkland is partnered with Saskpolytechnic so that students can also complete their PCP (Primary Care Paramedic) training along with their NFPA 1001, NFPA 472, NFPA 1051, NFPA 1002 to be eligible to be hired as a career firefighter in Canada.  Saskatchewan requires that all career firefighters have their PCP training along with the NFPA certifications.

Students get the opportunity to learn some practical skills.  Fire instructors lead the students in how to use a fire extinguisher and how to properly put out a fuel fire.  Students get to practice on a contained diesel fuel fire (as shown in the images).  On the same site they get to explore the variety of training equipment used to practice a variety of emergency situations. This includes structures to create controlled burns as well as sealed containers to setup a variety of fire situations.  Current fire college students often demonstrate a variety of skills depending on what portion of the course they are in when the class visits Parkland.
