High school not preparing young people for the work world: study

The following is an article from Global News:

A Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) study found 56 per cent of Saskatchewan employers do not think high schools are properly preparing young people for today’s jobs.

The group says schools are focusing more on higher education than practical skills, leaving a gap when teens start the hunt for their first jobs.

“Basic skills of being professional with customers, having a good attitude or being on time consistently and, not constantly being on your phone,” CFIB vice-president of Prairie and agri-business Marilyn Braun-Pollon said.

CFIB would also like to see small businesses give schools input on curriculum.

The youth unemployment rate is almost double the national average.

As you may have heard, Darrell Maffenbeier's daughter has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She is 14 years old and in Grade 8. Brooke's treatments can only be administered in Saskatoon and the family is expected to be there for 6-9 months. We are trying to raise money to help support the family during this difficult time, so our students have decided to host a car show!

The car show will be on June 15th, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 pm. Vehicle registration will be from 4:00-6:00. You can enter a vehicle for $10.00 or just come see the show for $5.00. Cash only. Limited to the first 100 vehicles registered. There will also be a hot dog sale, and 50/50 draw.

Alternate date: June 16th, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 pm. Vehicle registration will be from 4:00-6:00.

It is BBQ season and you're going to need a new wireless brush. Advanced Construction and Technology has a few scrapers left over and will produce more when you pre-order them.

The welding shop has a few garden roses left and are looking to get rid of them before the end of the semester. Our previous Valentines Day sale raised over $300 for the Regina Humane Society.

Both can be picked up in our school office.

To pre-order your scraper through the office by calling 523-3300.
